CARRIE KAY KING 1986 - 2002 TROY CHASE LYLES
Motivated. Determined. Caring. Friendly. Intelligent. Active. Stubborn. Spirited. Lively. Clever. Talented. Trustworthy. Ambitious. Hard working. Attentive. Cheerful.
We could go on but you probably have an idea of the kind of people that Carrie King and Troy Lyles were. Carrie and Troy died August 27, 2002. They were sixteen, juniors at Lakewood High School and ready to take on the world. They had dreams, ambitions and lofty goals in mind. It is in their honor that we play every April, it is because of them that a community comes together to help support the dreams of kids just like Troy and Carrie. 100% of the proceeds of this tournament go to a scholarship fund for high school students in the hope that Troy and Carrie can help make the dreams of others come true.
Volunteers take a weekend out of their schedules to take care of the fields, sell concessions, keep score and announce games. They make up nicknames, sing the 3rd inning stretch and play trivia for prizes. Volunteers stay late to chalk fields and wake up early to put together concession stands. Parents spend anniversaries and birthdays at the baseball field. Tournament directors devote hours to making brackets, designing t-shirts and finding advertising for this program. You come from all over to play and help the memory of Carrie and Troy live on through others. Thank you, to all of you, for helping us make this tournament a success year after year.
Carrie and Troy have touched the lives of hundreds and possibly thousands of people. They have helped interior designers, teachers, journalists, engineers, athletes, scientists and so many more work towards achieving their dreams. They were extraordinary people, it is with a lot of love that this tournament is put together every year. We hope you enjoy your weekend, we love watching you play.
Good luck and have fun!
Sara LeProwse Ryan Farr
Editor's note: Sara and Ryan were friends and classmates of Carrie and Troy. They were instrumental in creating this tournament and have been helping every year.
