A Call to Action

LJBA needs your help,

The Lakewood Junior Baseball Association has provided a quality baseball experience to Lakewood area kids for over 50 years.  Due to the efforts of those who have been part of the Association for many years we have established a reputation for providing some excellent competitive baseball teams.  The Association has worked hard to maintain one of the best values in the Jefferson County Junior Baseball League by keeping the lowest fees of any of the organizations in the league. But all of this is in jeopardy if we do not find a new generation of leaders to continue our excellent tradition.

On September 20, 2011 only 13 people attended the General Membership meeting.  This is a sad state of affairs for an organization that had 21 kid pitch teams and 6 coach pitch/t-ball teams.  Out of the 13 present we were able to elect a partial board for the 2012 season.  It is important to note that several members of the board, the scheduler, and the equipment manager are in their last year with the Association and there is an urgent need to fill the remaining positions on the board with people who will “step up to the plate” and learn the workings of the Association so that LJBA can continue to provide a quality baseball experience.  The following five positions are open and in need to be filled as soon as possible.

Treasurer

Coach Representative for Open and 1stLeague

Three at large representatives for:

Tball/Coach Pitch

8-11 year olds

12-14, Level III and Seniors

In an effort to encourage participation in the meetings it was decided that all teams will be given preferential practice field assignments and first pick of equipment based on their attendance at the meetings.  Those coaches and/or team representatives that participated in the September meeting already have one credit toward their attendance record. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday October 6that 7:00pm at the JCJBL office and we need you to attend.

LJBA has spent several years building a reputation at Slammer’s BINGO as a group who cares about the people we serve. Many attendees have expressed their enjoyment of Monday night BINGO because of our group’s hard work to make their experience fun.  BINGO funds account for one third of the LJBA budget and are the main reason we have been able to keep our registration fees so low while others have been raising their fees. However, we are in desperate need of volunteers to continue our BINGO sessions at Slammers.  We have several regular volunteers who no longer have kids playing baseball for LJBA yet continue to volunteer their time to help out.  We need BINGO Managers, Cashiers, and a Caller to give these dedicated volunteers a break.  Without replacements BINGO is in jeopardy of being discontinued.
